2001-2002 COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT

Individuals satisfactorily completing each of the four courses (Fall 2000-Spring 2001) will receive a certificate recognizing advanced studies in psychoanalytic theory and practice.  Prior participation is not required to register for current sessions.

FALL 2001 SCHEDULE

COUNTERTRANSFERENCE: 
Research into the Unconscious

Melanie Klein

The course will emphasize the therapist's use of self as an analytic instrument. Continuing Klein's introduction to primitive mental functioning, we will investigate a post-Kleinian approach to the ways people use their mind to find or destroy meaning.  Clinical applications of theory to common clinical situations will again be the focus of lecture, informal discussion, and shared presentations.

The Practical Implications of Psychoanalytic Theory

We will focus not only on how psychoanalytic theory influences what we do with our patients, but also discuss the theory of psychoanalytic technique as developed by Charles Brenner.
