Section
I: Psychologist-Psychoanalyst Practitioners
The purpose of this Section is to
further the practice and training of psychoanalysts. This Section offers a rich program of
study groups, workshops and seminars. Members must have met specific training criteria.
Section II: Childhood and
Adolescence
Members are child
clinicians who practice psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy and who conduct
research in the area of child psychoanalysis. A major goal is to increase, through the
development of study groups, communications among Section members.
Section III: Women and
Psychoanalysis
The purpose of this
Section is to promote research and theory concerning gender and women's issues; to
increase the participation of women in the roles and functions of the profession; to
promote and maintain high standards of practice in the psychotherapeutic treatment of
women; and, to advocate on behalf of women's issues.
Section IV: Local
Chapters
This Section enables
local chapters to come together in a forum to discuss local chapter development; share
programs and plans; sponsor programs for the Spring meeting and the APA convention; assist
in the development of new local chapters; and, foster the development of psychoanalytic
education and training throughout the country.
Section V:
Psychologist/Psychoanalyst Clinicians
Section V is
composed primarily of clinicians who are committed to the philosophy that a variety of
theoretical orientations co-exist in contemporary psychoanalysis. Its goals are to develop
substantive, scholarly programs, where discourse n differing philosophical, theoretical
and practice issues in psychoanalysis may flourish.
Section VI: Psychoanalytic
Research Society
The purpose of this
section is to promote empirical, theoretical, and clinical psychoanalytic research. It
serves to facilitate the continual development and training of researchers and to broaden
the role that psychoanalytic research plays in psychology, related disciplines, and the
public sector.
Section VII: Psychoanalysis
and Groups
The purpose of this
Section is to provide a forum for those clinicians who apply psychoanalytic thinking to
the theory and practice of psychoanalytic group therapy and to institutional and societal
groups.
Section VIII: Psychoanalysis
and Family Therapy
The purpose of this
Section is to nurture the theoretical and clinical interests of
psychologists/psychoanalysts who work with couples or families.
Section IX: Psychoanalysts
for Social Responsibility
The objectives of
the Section are to promote the engagement of psychoanalysts, and psychoanalysis as a
field, in important social issues. The Section sponsors events and activities in which a
psychoanalytic perspective is brought to bear on social issues which may be related to
prevention, education, human rights, race relations, discrimination, poverty, and
violence. |
