| DIVISION OF PSYCHOANALYSIS (39) AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL
ASSOCIATION
Dear Colleague:
Thank you for your
interest in Division 39. We hope you will join us and work with us to further
psychoanalytic psychology.
The Division of
Psychoanalysis was founded in 1979 and currently has over 3, 500 members. Our members are
a diverse group of psychologists and graduate students who share a common interest in
psychoanalytic psychology. Division 39 is a dynamic and vital organization with nine
sections and over 30 local chapters. The Division has four seats on APA's Council of
Representatives, and is active in representing psychologists-psychoanalysts in diverse
ways.
Activities of Division 39
The Division has
stimulated the development of interdisciplinary local chapters and training institutes.
Interested psychologists are encouraged to participate in psychoanalytic psychological
activities at both local and national levels.
The Division sponsors an
annual Spring meeting, which is intellectually stimulating and clinically rich. This
meeting has grown in importance and now is a significant venue for the dissemination of
innovative ideas in psychoanalytic psychology. The presentations are at an exceptionally
high level of scholarship. The Division, at both the Spring meeting and at the APA
program, as well as in the Division Journal: Psychoanalytic Psychology, reflect the
excitement of contemporary psychoanalytic psychology, its pluralism and respect for
diverse viewpoints. The Spring meeting is small enough to ensure informal collegial
interaction. Members of Division 39 receive announcements of, and are entitled to a
reduced fee for the Spring meeting.
Benefits of Division 39
