For the next DSPP ARTS
event, Robert and Sarah Aberg will host a theatrical performance in
their home on Saturday, January 31, 2004.
This event is inspired by the recent French play, "Transatlantic
Liaison" by Fabrice Rozie, which had its North American premiere last
spring at Theatre Three. The play is
inspired by the love affair between Simone de Beauvoir and Nelson
Algren. The affair is depicted in Ms. de Beauvoir's books, Beloved
Chicago Man, Letters to Nelson Algren
(Victor Golancz, London, 1998); & The Mandarins
(WW Norton & Co, NY and London, 1956).
Two well-known area actors, Kerry Cole and
Stephen Pounders, will present readings from the play, passages
from Beauvoir's books and possibly some excerpts from Algren's
works.
The theatrical event
will provide an opportunity to experience the beauty of the play,
as well as, explore ideas about
love and art. Of particular note, is
the concept of grand passions expressed in art (or as an idea)
compared to grand passions experienced in a relationship. Ms. De
Beauvoir's work is notable for its exploration's of female
desire.
The evening will begin at 8 pm, and
seating is limited to 30 people. Appetizers and wine will be provided
for the event.
