Monster is based on the life of “serial killer” Aileen Wuornos.  The film explores Wuornos’ life.  Although her first murder is committed in “self-defense”, she is soon mired in an escalating series of crimes that will earn her a death sentence and  nationwide notoriety.  Sue Russell authored the book based on the life of Aileen Wuornos.  Charlize Theron won the 2004 Academy Award for best actress for her portrayal of Wuornos.
